He worked as a carpenter for the Erie Railroad until his retirement, also owned a farm on Bald Hill in the town of Hornellsville, NY for over 40 years. He was a highly skilled carpenter, enjoyed drawing horses and liked Ford cars and trucks.
- In the 1950s had potatoes on the farm, had recent bought a new potato digger and would bag up a few bushels of potatoes each day and take to work at the railroad and sell them for a dollar a bushel to earn some extra spending money.

3. Polly Tanner Allen was born on 01 Feb 1899 in Almond, Allegany Co., New York, USA (daughter of Andrew K. Allen and Viola Deanthe Ferrin); died on 06 Feb 2004 in Hornell, Steuben Co., New York, USA; was buried in Rural Cemetery, Hornellsville, Steuben Co., New York, USA. Notes:
Polly(Mary Stanley) graduated from Hornell High School in 1920. She lived with her aunt, Mrs. John Stanley, after the death of her mother in 1905. She was said have had a very tough time as a little girl, living with her mothers family, having to hear about how "improper those Allen's are." Audrey Allen, said that Grandma was not even aloud to play with the neighbor kids because she was an Allen. Grandma never mentioned anything about her father having been Divorced before marring her mother. This was look down upon at the time and may have been why her parents went to Steuben County to get married by a Justice of the Peace. Grandma always spoke highly of her father and of his third wife Edith Jotry. She so wanted to go and live with them, but from what I understand, they were always traveling and it would be no place for a little girl, so she was told.
