Notes:

Thomas was a farmer and "gentlemen," his home was near the Charlestown line. In 1713 he was hired by Peter Tufts to act as town Constable in his place. Thomas was a prominent citizen of Malden and a large land owner. In December of 1737 Lt.Thomas Burditt was choosen a member of the new South Precinct committee in Malden, as was reported to Boston and endorsed by Governor Belcher. A few days later Capt.Green, Benjamin Blaney and Lt. Thomas Burditt were chosen "agents, to assert ye said Precinct rights of ye ministeriall Lands..." He was included in several other committee events up until about 1750. On 03 Oct 1751 he was chosen an elder of the South Parish Church and meeting house. In the 1730's he is known as Lieutenant Thomas Burditt, possibly for his duty in the Colonial Militia. His will was dated 28 July 1758 and proved 20 Nov 1758, but there was a disputed over his estate, of which one Negro man Servant, named Jeffrey was sold to Ezra Green, of Malden on 8Feb1762, for thirty-seven pounds, by Thomas' heirs, Thomas, Jabez, Joseph, Jacob Burditt, and Samuel
Sweetser(husband of Mary Burditt). Lieutenant of the Malden Military Company, 1737.

Notes:

Thomas was a "yeoman" and "farmer", he owned part of Moulton's Island and in 1693 sold ten acres of it to Thomas Mitchell. In 1688 his land in Charlestown was taxed and on 26Jun1693 he, together with his wife sold land in Charlestown. On 20Mar1694, Thomas, along with seventy-three other were alloted in the common lands as a proprietors and freeholders of Malden. In 1705 he was one of those protesting against the choice of a minister. In 1713 he was one of those building a gallery in the Meeting House, and on 28 Jun 1727 he and his son, Thomas, signed a statement concerning the Meeting House.

Robert Burditt or Burden, as had been sometimes written, the immigrant ancestor, was born in England in 1633, came to New England when a young man and settled in Malden as one of the early settlers. Little or nothing is known about him and his family, except a few land transcations within Malden and Charlestown,MA. It is known through court records, that in 1652/3 Robert was residing in Malden, where he apparently lodged with William Bucknam, for on 05 Feb 1652/3 he, together with William's wife Sarah(Knower), were cited before the Cambridge Court for suspicious marriages towards one another, but they pparently satisfied the Court as to their innocence for on 04 Aug 1653 they were discharged.

(Midd. III: 77-79) I Robert Birdict give vnto my wife one third part of all my lands & houseing, during her naturall life, and after her decease, then to be equally divided among all my children. Also I give vnto my wife one third part of all my moveable goods & cattell, the one halfe whereof to be at her dispose at her decease, the other halfe, in case shee marry again, shall be delivd to my exors. & overseers for the bringing vp of my children. To eldest sonne Thomas a double portion of all my estate when he shall come to be 21 yeares of age. To my daughters Hannah, Mary, Sarah & Ruth equall portions out of the rest, when they come to be of the age of 18 yeares, and in case my wife be at present with child, then said child shall have equal portion with my daughters. (Midd. Deed VIII: 121) Edmond Chamberlaine of Roxbury, Co. Suff., for one hundred and fourteen pound and ten shillings pd by Mr. James Russell of Charlstowne, sell one messuage or tenement & several other parcells of land in Chelmsford, Co. Midd. conteining one dwelling house and fifteen acres of land on pt. of which the house stands and fifteen acres of land at the east end of the sd. House, a high way only dividing between them, and a brook running through this second parcell, & both these pcells, are bounded by Thomas Chamberlane Senr, northward, and by the Towne Comons elsewhere. Also eight acres of meadow, about three quarters of a mile westward of the sd House, bounded at the lower end by Robert Proctor and by upland elsewhere. Also twenty acres of meadow lying at Cadwick lying upon a small brook
that runs into Nashaba brook, bounded by Thomas Chamberlane Senr east and elsewhere by uplands, this prcell of meadow land was granted to the sd. Chamberlaine by Chelmsford Towne for Eleven acres and the
former parcell of meadow for four acres. Also a parcell of meadow and swamp land lying southward of Hildreths great pond called pond meadow, which assends from the sd. pond southward and was granted by Chelmsford to the sd Chamberlane and James Hildreth, the whole containe twenty or thirty acres, the sd Russell to take the one half of the whole, taking the East side of the sd. land, also twenty and four acres of land upon ye pine plain, at the head of the cove, it being bounded by the Comon round about. Edmund Chamberlain appeared first in Roxbury, Mass., where the Rev. John Eliot recorded his marriage in 1646. He resided in Woburn from 1649 to 1654, and on a farm next to the one occupied by William Chamberlain at Billerica in 1655. On the 11 June 1656 Mary Chamberlain was admitted to the church at Chelmsford, as "Mary Chamberlin the wife of Edmond Chamblin dismissed to us fro. the Church of Ooburne"

(John Fisk's Note Book, Second Proc. Mass. Hist. Soc. XII: 325). Edmo: Chamberlain was freeman at Chelm: 3 May 1665. He resided there until 1669, and next appeared at Malden at the time of his second marriage in 1670, where he remained until 1676, when he removed to Roxbury and there rented the Griffith Bowen farm from 1677 to 1682. Edward Chamberlaine was a Tything man at Muddy River on the 25 Apr. 1681

(Rec. Comm. Rep. VII), and Edmund Chamberlin was on the Muddy River rates the 13 Dec. 1691

With his wife Hannah, son Edmund and daughter Mary, Edmund Chamberlain removed to New Roxbury, now Woodstock, Conn., as early as the 23 Nov.1693, where he was deacon of the first church until his death in 1696.

(Hinman's Early Settlers of Conn.) Edmund Chamberlain, at a Town meeting at Woodstock, Nov. 23. 1693, was allowed a corner of land, about thirty rods, on the north side of Muddy Brook, for fencing, Granted March 21, 1693-4, three acres adjoining the land he purchased of James Frizell of Woodstock.

The Lots of third Range, of which No. 56 was taken up by Edmund Chamberlaine, and contained 21 acres. The sixth Range of Lots begin with the 105th lott of 23 1/4 acres taken by Jacob Chamberlaine.
