    • Military Service: 1777, Rehoboth, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, USA; American Revolution (US) Spring of 1777 substituted for his brother, Simeon, serving three months as a private in Captain Simeon Cole's Company. Immediately afterward he enlisted in Captain Nathaniel Carpenter's company in Colonel Lane's regiment and served four months. Enlisted in 1778 and served three months in Captain Israel Hick's company and four months in Captain Israels Nichols's company. Enlisted in 1779 and served four months in Captain John Hyde's company and four months in Captain John Hill's company. Enlisted in 1780 and served four months in Captain Matthew Randall's company and five months in Captain Joseph Franklin's company. Enlisted in the spring of 1781 as sergeant in Captain Jabes Barney's company in Colonel Jackson's regiment and served five months, after which he immediately enlisted in Captain Olney's company, was at the siege of Yorktown and returned home in December, 1781.

    Notes:

    Benjamin served in the Revolutionary War at a young age. He and his family removed from Rehoboth to Dighton,MA about 1791.
    Before coming to western New York, he was engaged in getting out timber for ship building; he also bought vessels overdue and believed to be lost. One of these vessels was captured by the French in August of 1792. The claim was presented at Washington and collected, but not until after his death and his decendants could not prove the claim. It still remains at Washington,D.C.
    Benjamin and his family came to what was then called Genesee Country, on the Genesse River in 1799, wishing to engage in milling. He followed the river as far as where the City of Rochester now is, however he considered it an unhealthy place and traveled east until he came to Clyde river; following this up stream he came to one of its tributaries(Mud Creek). Following this, he came to the place now called East Bloomfield and erected the first grist-mill in this section. Benjamin also build a saw-mill. He purchased the farm of about 140 acres of the four corners on the west side of the Creek road in 1799 and built the present house in 1806. He there erected the first grist-mill in this vicinity, now known as Pool's Mill.
