Benjamin, son of David Force, was born in 1793, and died in 1873. He spent his youth in his native place in New Jersey and was a pioneer settler at Steuben County, now Schuyler county, New York. Where he followed farming all his active life. In politics he was a Whig and afterward a Republican. An Intense abolitionist, he was prominent in all anti slavery movements and his house was a station of the underground railroad. His grandson and namesake was instantly killed while serving in the Union Army in the Civil War in Sherman's "March to the Sea", in 1864.

He married (first) Sophia Caswell, born in 1796, and died in 1831. Her mother, Miriam (Smith) Caswell was born and raised in Massachusetts. A number of descendants of Thomas and Miriam Caswell were prominent business men in Ohio. Children of Benjamin Force were: John, Lodencia, Dr Lyman, Dr Alfred, and Chester B. Benjamin Force married (second) Sarah Russell, by whom he had three children: Eliza, Julia and David.

Benjamin married Sarah Russell about 1832. Notes:

Death Record shows father as "Jno Russell" and mother as "Sarah Russell" - 1855 census of Tyrone shows she is 39 and had been living in town for 35 years - meaning her parents should be in the town in 1820 and 1830 census. The 1830 census has Ebenezer and Abraham. Only Ebenezer shows having a daughter of her age. Also, Ebenezer was living in Seneca Co. at the time she was born (also shown in 1855 that she was born in Seneca Co.)

It had a mammoth fire-place in which were used logs eight and ten feet long. There were three or four other log houses and two frame houses there at that time. It was equipped with slab seats. The name of the first teacher was Joshua C. Covert. One of its early teachers was Judge Nathan B. Wheeler.
