| 163 | A former Dansville woman, Monica C. Applin of Elmira died Tuesday (July 14, 1987). She was 92. She was born June 17, 1895, in Arnot, Pa., and was the widow of Edward Applin who died in 1962. Mr. and Mrs. Applin were longtime residents of Dansville and she was employed for many years as dining room hostess at the Macfadden Health Resort here. Upon moving to Elmira, she was employed at the Townley Nursing Home until retirement. Surviving are a son, Leo Applin of Elmira; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted this morning in St. Patrick's Church of Elmira. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Elmira, with arrangements by the Barrett Funeral Home. | 172 | From the HISTORY OF ONTARIO COUNTY; compiled by Lewis Cass Aldrich; edited by George S. Conover; 1893; Benton G. Abbey, Richmond, was born February 19, 1854. His father, Hiram P., son of John, was born in 1822, and married Betsey, daughter of Benjamin Gregg, of Bristol, and settled on a portion of his father's farm. Besides Benton he had two other children: S. Elizabeth, born in 1860, and Robt. B., now living in Bristol, where he is a farmer. Hiram P. has about 550 acres in this county and several thousand acres in Texas, which he visits every winter. Mrs. Abbey died in 1888. His son, Benton G., attended Canandaigua Academy and Geneseo Normal School. In 1885 he married Jennie Garton, of East Bloomfield, and they have two children: Caroline, born August 1, 1886, and Bessie, born in January, 1888. Mr. Abbey engaged in the manufacture of drain tile in 1879, to which he has since added a cider mill and a fruit evaporator. He has twenty acres in his homestead farm. | Benton G. Abbey

He was born Oct. 4, 1929, the son of the late Nelson and Bernadine O'Brien Acker. Donald was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Bennett Acker. He was a WW II Navy veteran. Mr. Acker is survived by two daughters, Donna (Dennis) Hartman and Cynthia (Tim) Hoag, both of Dansville; four sons, Don (Carol) of Venice, FL, Ron (Laurie) of North Port, FL, Dan (Beth) of Accokeek, MD, and Tim (Anne) of Venice, FL; one brother, John of Nakomis, FL; six grandchildren, one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Robert Johnson, predeceased her in 1978. She was a homemaker and mother of 10 children. She enjoyed cooking, especially making homemade doughnuts. She is survived by her children, Gordon Johnson of Mt. Morris, Jack Johnson of Norwich, Betty Johnson of Avon, Nancy Johnson of Lakeville, Billy Johnson of Florida, David Smith of Lakeville, Helen Newcomb of Wayland, Carol (Tom) Jacobs and Benjamin (Tina) Johnson, all of Dansville, and Star Freeman of Bath; 31 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, a brother, Gilbert Acker of Buffalo; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
