"Burdett, Cyril Herbert, lawyer, of 135 Broadway, New York City, was born, Boston, Mass., Oct. 3, 1865; son of Michael B. and Albina (Long) Burdett; grad. Quincy Acad., 1884; Harvard Univ., 1888; married, Boston, Feb. 21, 1890, Winella White Stratton. Practiced law in Boston for two years; became mem. N. Y. bar and for ten years was associated with Title Guarantee and Trust Co., N. Y. City; in 1902, upon the organization of the Title Ins. Co. of N. Y., was elected sec. of that company, as well as of N. Y. Mortgage and Security Co., two allied corps; now vice-president and general manager. Elected president Chelsea Realty Co., sec. and treas. the Lawyers' Eng'ring and Surveying Co., treas. Hudson Mortgage Co., and pres. Montrose Realty Co., all of which positions retains.     "Miss Mary Ellen Whitford, aged 77, died at 12:20 pm Thursday at the home of her sister, Mrs Frank Thayer, RD 2, on the Spring Creek road. She had suffered from a heart ailment, but was seriously ill only about a week. The deceased was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Hiram H Whitford and was born on the farm where she died on March 25, 1864. She spent most of her life on the farm and was a member of Hydetown Grange. The body will be taken from the Arnold funeral home to the Thayer residence today, where friends may call and where services will be held at 2 pm Sunday. Rev E W Mattison of Union City UB church will officiate and interment will be in the Henderson cemetery on the Church Run road."

  • Daniel Blank, one of the best known citizens in this vicinity, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Morrison of South Canaseraga last Thursday afternoon, at the advanced age of 86 years, death resulting from heart disease and old age. Deceased was a man universally respected, not only in the community where he lived, but by all who knew him. He is survived by four children, two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Morrison, with whom he lived, and Mrs. A. Franklin of Birdsall, two sons, Ed Blank of Hornell and Charles Blank of South Canaseraga. He also leaves three brothers, Charles of Hemlock, David of Canisteo, and Henry of Gas Springs, and one sister, Mrs. Pebbit of Springwater. The funeral took place from the M.E. church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. J.A. Gardner officiating, and was largely attended. Burial in Canaseraga cemetery. Weed Post G.A.R., of which he was an honored member, attended the funeral in body.

  • Geneseo - Mrs. Clara Gray Pierpont, 85, died at her home in Geneseo, Tuesday (Sept. 30, 1952) after an extended illness. Born, Nov 13, 1866, in the town of Groveland, Mrs. Pierpont lived most of her life at the family home, 40 Second St., Geneseo. She was the daughter of Richard and Mary Wells Gray. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, Geneseo. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Mary F. Pierpont of Ossining and Mrs. James H. Allen, Kenton, Ohio, also a grandson, James Pierpont Allen of Kenton. Funeral services will be held today at the home in Geneseo at 2pm with the Rev. Joseph Sunter of Bergen and the Rev Alan Perrine, Geneseo, officiating. Burial will be in Temple Hill Cemetery, Geneseo.
