- Miss Wanda Smith, 30, of Sparta remains in guarded condition at Dansville Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries suffered in a two-car crash Christmas night which took the life of a young Wayland area man.
Killed instantly in the collision on the Lackawanna Hill Rd., about a mile outside the village, was Aaron Kline, 24, of Wayland, RD 1. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Livingston County coroner Richard C. Johnson. His death marked the 23rd traffic fatality in the county this year.
Miss Smith suffered arm and leg fractures and multiple bruises in the grinding crash shortly before midnight. She was taken to the hospital by Dansville ambulance. Dansville police assisted at the scene and a fire truck was called to wash down the highway.
Sgt. Peter Taylor and Trooper G.U. Smith of the Wayland State Police sub-station in Wayland said the Kline auto was heading into Dansville when it skidded on a curve and crashed broadside into the Smith vehicle which was traveling up the hill.
Mr. Kline was employed by Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester. He was a 1966 graduate of Dansville Central School and had served in the Army for three years. He was a member of the Springwater United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kline; two sisters, Mrs. Charleen Kreiley of Dansville and Miss Faith Kline of Rochester; a brother, Allen of Dansville.
A funeral service was conducted in the Baird Funeral Home, Wayland. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Springwater. (GCE, December 30, 1971, p2)
