Notes |
- Ammy V. Hartman, 89, of West Sparta died Wednesday (July 9, 1986) in Noyes Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
A life resident of the Dansville area, he was born Sept. 26, 1896, in South Dansville. Prior to his retirement, he had been a worker for the John Putney Farms of Dansville. He was a veteran of World War I and a former member of Daniel Goho American Legion Post. He also was a former member of the Dansville Loyal Order of Moose.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
A service was conducted in the Chamberlin Funeral Home Monday afternoon with the Rev. Calvin Sheasley officiating. Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville. (GCE, July 17, 1986, p4)
- He later lived on Parker Hill in Sparta and would often be seen walking to and from Dansville. One incident remember by Austin Hartman was when Ammy was on his way to Dansville walking at a quick pace when someone drove up in a Model T and asked Ammy if he needed a ride into town. Ammy kept on walking straight head telling the gentlemen, "No thanks, I'm in a hurry." Ammy was said to have walked in a hunched over manner and if he were to ever stand up straight, you'd think he would be eight foot tall.
