Farnum, 88, of Pine Street, Dansville, passed away early Saturday morning (Jan. 29, 2005) at home, following a longillness.
He was born in Angelica on Jan. 22, 1917, a son of the late Gordon and Grace Allen Farnum. On Sept. 2, 1948, he was married to Joyce Daley Farnum, who survives. He was predeceased by siblings, Jane Allen, Alan, Merrick, Luther, Malcolm and Bernard Farnum.
Lionel graduated from Wilsonian High School in Angelica, and went to work at Craig Colony in Sonyea. He entered the United States Army March 15, 1941, and served under General Patton during World War II in the following campaigns and battles: The Invasion of North Africa, the Tunis Invasion of Sicily, the Invasion of Normandy, and across France to Belgium to fight The Battle of the Bulge. He returned stateside in September 1945 and returned to work at Craig Colony as a fire and safety officer for over 30 years. He was a past commander of the Halley Allen Post of the American Legion in Sonyea.
Surviving in addition to his devoted wife of 56 years, Joyce, are a son, Paul J. Farnum of Dansville; a daughter, Joan (Anthony) Bianco of Rhode Island; three granddaughters, Jennifer Farnum, Katelyn and Angelica Bianco; and a grandson, Bryan Farnum.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville, where services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2. Interment with full military honors will be in Until the Day Dawn's Cemetery, Angelica.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dansville Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 235, the Daniel Goho Post #87, P.O. Box 306, both of Dansville, N.Y. 14437; or to Livingston County Hospice, 2 County Campus, Mt. Morris, N.Y. 14510.
