- Death of Martin S. Hamsher.
Martin S. Hamsher died at his home in Canaseraga Tuesday afternoon. He was born in Sparta about 80 years ago, was the son of Bernard Hamsher and grandson of Daniel Hamsher, both of whom cams to Sparta from Pennsylvania along in 1820 or a little later, Bernard Hamsher taking up and clearing the farm north of Sparta Center now owned by Leonard Tucker, where the son Martin was born. In 1862 the deceased enlisted in Co. I, 130th N. Y. V. and served his full term of enlistment. He was a farmer nearly all his life; was a Mason and a member of the G. A. R., and was married nearly fifty years ago to Miss Virginia Losier, daughter of Hon. Abram Loxier who represented the 2nd district of this county in the assembly in 1853 and 1854. He is survived by his wife, and a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Gibson of Ossian, and by his brother Jonas Hamsher of this village, who is the last of his father's large family.
