- Marian L. VanHouter, 88, of S. Lackawanna Street in Wayland died unexpectedly Monday (Dec. 3, 1990) in Noyes Memorial Hospital. She was born in the Town of Groveland on June 24, 1902, a daughter of Frank and Lydia Merriman Hamsher. She was married to Lee VanHouter on June 25, 1925. He predeceased her. Mrs. VanHouter was a resident of Wayland most of her life and was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church and the Big Sisters and Ladies Aid units of the church. She also was a 70-year member of Rebekah Lodge 498 in Wayland. She was a retired employee of Wayland Central School having been the cafeteria manager for 33 years. Surviving are cousins Mrs. Frances Hynes, Mrs. Joyce Slicker, Mrs. Doris Girard, all of Dansville; Mrs. Virginia Boylan of Canaseraga; Mrs. Alice Moore and Mrs. Catherine Mattice, both of Wayland. A service will be conducted today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. in the Walter E. Baird and Sons Funeral Home of Wayland with the Rev. Alan Jones officiating. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wayland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gunlocke Library in Wayland.
