Hamsher, Sr., 76, of Reeds Corners Rd., Sparta, passed away Thursday morning, July 20, 1995, in the home he was born in with his children and grandchildren at his bedside. He was born in Sparta on Jan. 11, 1919, the son of Charles A. and Flora Wagner Hamsher. On July 10, 1938, he married Dorothy Gates, who passed away in August of 1988. He was also predeceased by a son, James M. Hamsher. Charles went to work on the Far View family farm as a young man and worked the farm until he retired in 1989. He and his wife Dorothy were founding members of the Sparta Center Fire Department. He was also a member of the Dansville Grange. He is survived by his son, Charles W. Jr. of Sparta; two daughters, Carol (Robert) Carberry and Janice (Malcolm) Jarvis, both of Dansville; two sisters, Evelyn Learn of West Sparta and Lydia Weiler of Dansville; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; several nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog Pepper. Friends called Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville, where services were held Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. G. Calvin Sheasley and the Rev. Seymour Gilbert officiating. Interment was in Kiehle Cemetery, Sparta. Family and friends were also invited to attend a luncheon at the Sparta Center Fire Hall immediately following the committal service. Contributions in his name may be made to the Dansville Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 235, the Sparta Center Fire Dept., Reeds Corners Rd., both of Dansville; the American Heart Association, Finger Lakes Chapter, 191 Parrish St., Canandaigua, NY, 14424; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
