- Henry Mitchell of Marsden Lane, Lancshire Co., Eng., a carpenter, married Elizabeth Foulds 3ed mo. 6th day, 1675. They were both members of the Society of Friends and he was imprisoned in England for his religious convictions. On 12th mo, 16th day, 1699, he, wife and four children were granted a certificate and embarked for Pennsylvania. Henry and one son died during a great sickness aboard ship. His widow and three children settled near head of Tidewater at Neshaminy." (Bucks County, Pa, Pioneers of the 18th Century," by Williams, Bk 1, p. 97) "Henry Mitchell, of Marsden Lane, Lancshire, England, Carpenter, married 3 mo. (May) 6th 1675, Elizabeth Foulds, of same place, at the House of Stephen Saeger, in Marsden Lane, under the auspices of the Marsden Monthly Meeting of Friends. "12 mo (February) 16th 1698/9, a Certificate was granted at Marsden Mo. Mtg. to Henry Mitchell, Elizabeth his wife and three children, to Friends in Penna. They sailed in the "Britannica" which arrived in the Delaware River 6 mo (August) 25 1699, but the father had died on the voyage, and Elizabeth, the mother, survived less than two months, dying 8 mo (October) 10 1699. The Certificate was deposited at Middleton Monthly Meeting. These "three children" were Richard, Henry and John." (Mitchell Family Genealogy, Folio #1, Spruance Library Genealogy Division, Doylestown, PA) The above folio is a typewritten manuscript; well researched; but the name of the compiler not included on any page! This follows our direct line from Henry the immigrant to Richard in Generation IV. Evidently more research was done, probably in Quaker Church records, and four children were found for Henry and Elizabeth.
