- DANSVILLE - Henry E. 'Hank' Waltman, 82, of Health St., Dansville died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 15, 2000 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born March 21, 1918 in Dansville, the son of the late Frank H. and Mary E. (House) Waltman. He was married to Marion Ruth (Whitman) Waltman on Oct. 15, 1955 in St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Williamsport, Pa.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a sergeant during World War II. Hank was the owner-partner along with his brother of the former Waltman Motors Ford dealership in Dansville which was sold in 1961. He had been employed at the Foster Wheeler Corp. as a purchasing agent, retiring in 1983. He was a 60+ year member and former trustee and elder of the Dansville Presbyterian Church. He was a 63-year member of the Union Hose Co. #1 of the Dansville Fire Department and a member of the Daniel Goho American Legion Post #87 in Dansville, a member of the Dansville Fish & Game Club, along with the Wednesday afternoon pitch players card club, Foster Wheeler retirees, former member and past president of the Dansville Rotary Club and an avid bowler in many leagues for many years, traveling throughout the United States for many different tournaments.
Hank was predeceased by a sister, Frances W. Clark on Aug. 7, 1998. Besides his devoted wife of 44 years Marion Ruth Waltman, he is survived by two sons, Douglas M. Waltman (Megan Hertzlin) of Rush and Robert F. Waltman (Sharon Hartman) of Dansville; one daughter, Sherry K. (Gary) Kramer of Dansville and one brother J. Tyler Waltman of Dansville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends called Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Chamberlin Funeral Home, Inc., 73 Main St., Dansville. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Dansville Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Robert Boohr and the Rev. David Hotchkiss officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Greenmount Cemetery in Dansville.
In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Dansville Presbyterian Church, 3 School St. or the Dansville Ambulance Corp., P.O. Box 235, both of Dansville, NY 14437.
An American Legion prayer service was held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home, followed by a Union Hose Co. #1 and Dansville Fire Dept. prayer service at 7:15 p.m. (GCE, July 20, 2000, p4)
