    • Rebecca was a school teacher. About 1860 she was at the Fort Edward Institute, a boarding seminary school(teachers school), she taught in Fulton Co.,NY and Steuben Co.,NY.

      From Wayland Register, Oct 6, 1911 - FORMER RESIDENT PASSES AWAY - The following is taken from the Gloversville Morning Herald, Sept. 28 1911. Rebecca E. Sanford Staley, aged seventy-three years, died at 8:56 o'clock last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Willard DeGolyer, in Phelps street north of Gloversville, following a three months' illness, Bright's disease and other complications being the cause of death. Mrs. Staley has been a resident of Gloversville for only one year, having come here from Wayland, Steuben county, to make her home with her daughter. She was a member of the Methodist church at Wayland and a woman whose sterling qualities of mind and character made her many friends. She was a native of Livingston county, where she was born December 8, 1833, She was a daughter of the late Soton and Esther Sanford. The deceased is survived by one son, Charles H. Staley, of Gloversville; four daughters, Mrs. Willard DeGolyer of Gloversville; Mrs. Harry F, Briggs of Honeoye; Mrs. Edwin Templeton of May tit Id and Mrs. Ernest Mallabar of Portland, Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. Alexander Shute of Millaca, Minn.; Mrs. Jacob Swarts of Springwater and four brothers, Gilbert Sanford of Friendship; Soton and Reed E. Sanford , of Princeton, Minn.; and Van. R. Sanford of Mount View, Cal. Seventeen grandchildren also survive. There will be a prayer service, conducted by Rev. Howard J. Charles.pastor of the Emmanuel Baptist church, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Willard DeGolyer this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The body will be taken to the late home at Wayland, where the funeral was held on Saturday and where the interment took place.
