    Notes
    • Flora Harter Lander was born April 19, 1889, in South Dansville, daughter of Eugene and Mary [Mate] Whitman Harter…When she was eleven years of age her mother entered into rest and she and a younger sister went to live with their grandmother, Mrs. Alvira C. Whitman, near Wayland. At the age of sixteen Flora returned to keep house for her father until all were united in one home in Wayland. During this time Flora became a member of the United Evangelical church, and was an earnest Christian, both in conduct and practice. On November 27, 1912, she was united in marriage to Clarence H. Lander, and their one daughter Beatrice Irene, was born December 5, 1916. In the fall of 1915, Flora and her husband came to the Guile farm (Healy Place), where she took great pleasure caring for the home, which recently became her own. She was a member of the Cohocton Grange, Red Cross and Red Cross Circle of the Presbyterian church. Her death occurred February 28, 1919, at the home of her father near Howard, where she had gone to assist in caring for him during his severe illness. There she contracted influenza, followed by pneumonia, which was of one week’s duration. She has left to mourn her loss, her husband, Mr. Clarence Lander, a daughter, Beatrice Irene, father, and one sister, Mrs. Albert Lander, besides many relatives and a host of friends…The [funeral] services were conducted by Rev. Teter, pastor of the United Evangelical church of Wayland. She was laid to rest in Lakeside cemetery at Loon Lake, beside her mother, and the wondrous sunshine of March 3, shone upon her grave.
