- Ernest L. "Lee “Burdett, Jr., 87, of Paradise, died at his home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 surrounded by family and under the care of Northwood's Home Health.
Born on December 7, 1927 in Detroit, Lee was a son of the late Ernest L. & Opal B. (Garretson) Burdett, Sr. He graduated from high school and entered the U.S. Naval Reserve. In 1946 he entered active duty for the Navy and was stationed on several vessels, being honorably discharged in 1947. Lee was employed at Chrysler and was a union tool and die worker in the robotics departments. Lee retired from Chrysler on April 30, 1993.
Lee was a member of the American Legion Post #255 in Lansing, but also attended the American Legion Post #393 in Hulbert and was a member of the former "Paradise Jammers", He enjoyed hunting, and boating, playing the violin, auto restoration and restoration of anything antique. Lee attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Paradise. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Barbara J. (Wallace) Burdett who passed away on September 26, 1989.
Survivors include his wife, the former Claranne "Clae" (Wirries-Green) Burdett, whom he married on December 12, 1992 in Royal Oak; and children: Valerie Schwarzwalder, of Tucson, AZ; Corinne (Jeffrey) Lynam, Sterling Heights; Pamela (Bruce) Garman of Higgins Lake; Angela Burdett of Mt. Pleasant; Deborah (Patrick) Stark of Brighton; David (Louise) Green, II of Huntington Beach,CA; Denise Archer of Kansas City, MO; Dale (Robin) Green of Fenton; Darryl (Melanie) Green of Northville; Douglas (Theresa) Green of Franklin, TN; Darin (Brenda) Green of Myrtle Beach, NC; Dennis (Tara) Green, of Hanahan, SC. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren with 2 more great-grandchildren expected soon.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2015 from 9:00 am until 12 noon at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Paradise. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Fr. Frank Ricca Officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Hulbert American Legion Post #393. A viewing will be held in the interment chapel at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley from 1:00 PM until 1:30 PM on Wednesday April 8, 2015. Interment will follow in Roseland Park Cemetery at 12 Mile and Woodward Ave. in Berkley.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Disabled American Veterans.
