  Notes	ALFRED STATION - Carl David Oakes, 73, of 6404 Shaw Rd., died Sunday (July 6, 2003) at his home. Born in Canisteo, Oct. 22, 1929, he was a son of Carl Daniel and Cora Call Oakes. He had resided his early life in Angelica, returning to this area following his military service. He served in the US Navy from 1948-1952. He was a member of the Almond American Legion Post #0370, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He had been employed for several years as a meat cutter for the former Richtmyers Grocery in Hornell, as well as the former Totten Grocery and Smith's IGA Store, both in Canisteo. He was later employed in the maintenance department of the New York State College of Ceramics in Alfred for 18 years, prior to his retirement in 1987. Carl and Dorothy L. Roe had owned and operated the former Captain's Nook on Depot Street in Canisteo for several years. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Botems Oakes in 1982; four sisters, Ruth Watt, Frances VanZile, Catherine Racalto, Mildred Stocum; as well as three brothers, Howard, Robert and Charles Oakes.
