He moved with parents to Ontario Co., NY. about 1794. He married Celia B. Wheeler about 1805. Lyman was a minuteman in the War of 1812.
After 1820,the family moved to Monroe Co. NY where they operated a hotel called the "Coffee House." In 1833 Lyman and son Hiram went to Hinckley Twp. Medina Co, OH buying 650 acres in the eastern part of the township. They returned to NY and with their families came by the Erie Canal to Buffalo, and then across Lake Erie to Cleveland, then they moved by wagons to Brunswick. There they engaged Thomas James to pilot them through the woods to their new land on the line of Hinckley Township.
