- Harold Dorr Hartman, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday (Jan. 3, 2010) at the Episcopal Home in Rochester.
Harold was born March 19, 1915 in West Sparta, a son of Elmer and Mabel (Frost) Hartman. Harold was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II from 1942-46. He was a retired electrician from SUNY Geneseo and he was also the assessor of the Town of West Sparta for many years. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a brother, Howard Hartman and a sister, Mildred Pike.
Harold was a member of the West Sparta United Methodist Church, where he was the treasurer for many years, retiring in 1990. He was also a member of the West Sparta Grange and the Daniel Goho American Legion Post in Dansville.
Harold enjoyed his Ham Radio, repairing televisions and anything to do with electricity and electronics; he enjoyed his vegetable garden and he also built several houses in the Dansville area; but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Harold is survived by his nieces and nephews, Shirley and Dick Tracy, Larry and Alexandra Hartman, Denny and Donna Hartman, Marlene Pike and Henry Adams, John and Stefanie Pike; many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from noon-2 p.m. Thursday at the Chamberlin-Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville, where funeral services with full military honors will take place at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Dansville.
