- Ernest M. VanSkiver, 81, of Canaseraga RD1 died Saturday (Aug. 22,
1987) in his home following a short illness.
He was born May 13, 1906, in Jasper, a son of Charles and Lela Hallett
VanSkiver. He had resided in the Town of Hartsville for several years
and in Canaseraga for 28 years. Mr. VanSkiver was a farm machinery
mechanic and retired as a supplier at the Birds Eye plant in Avon. He
was a past master of the former Hartsville Grange.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Masters VanSkiver whom he married on
June 7, 1947; seven sons, Donald, Darrell, David and Daniel of
Canaseraga, Dale of Corsicana, Tex., Duane of Arkport and Dean of
Cameron Mills; a daughter, Darlene Johnson of Dansville; a sister,
Myrtle Blue of Hornell RD1; 13 grandchildren.
A service was conducted in the H.P. Smith and Son Funeral Home of
Canisteo Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Robert Coppings
officiating. Burial was in Jasper Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Canaseraga Ambulance fund in
