    • LAGRANGE, LA. - Mrs. Ruth Acomb Wilson, 88, of LaGrange, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at the Florence Hand Home.

      She was born June 10, 1919, in Dansville, N.Y., the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Bessie Hartman Acomb. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a volunteer at West Georgia Medical Center, and a member of LaGrange Business Girls League. She was a registered nurse and retired from Forbes Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was a lst lieutenant U.S. Army Nurse Corps veteran, and served on a naval hospital ship.

      Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Anne Wilson and Dr. Woody Jones of LaGrange; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Hunter and Cietha Wilson of Garberville, Calif.; two grandsons, Taylor Jones and Nathan Jones of LaGrange; a granddaughter, Amber Wilson White of Arcata, Calif.; and two sisters, Bessie Merrill of Newville, Pa., and Helen Veley of Nunda, N .Y. She was preceded in death by brothers George Acomb, Robert Acomb, Lewis Acomb, Scott Acomb and Andrew Acomb; a sister, Margaret Brew; and a number of nieces and nephews.

      The Burial Office will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 at St. Mark?s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Lori Lowe officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Dansville at a later date. The family will receive friends after services at the church.

      In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make donations in memory of Mrs. Wilson to West Georgia Medical Center or Habitat for Humanity.

    • John was an officer in the 29th Infantry Division during WWII and a Geographer. Ruth entered the Army Nurse Corps during WWII, June 15th 1942, she was released Dec 24th 1945. Her rank at that time was 1st LT. She later lived in Pittsburg,PA as a Registered Nurse.
