- SPARTA - Willard A. Pfuntner, 87, of Stong Hill Road, Sparta, passed away Wednesday evening (April 21, 2004) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, after being transferred from the McAuley Manor.
He was born in the Town of Sparta on Jan. 4, 1917, a son of the late George and Clarissa Fronk Pfuntner. On Sept. 10, 1970, he was married to the former Donna Marshall, who survives. He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Bolger Pfuntner; and a sister, Sarah Mastin.
Willard was employed at Foster Wheeler Corp. in Dansville for 32 years, retiring in 1980.
Willard was a WWII US Army veteran, a life member of the Daniel Goho Post #87 of the American Legion, a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Twenty-five year club at Foster Wheeler, all of Dansville. He enjoyed gardening, cutting wood and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his dear wife, Donna, are a son, David Pfuntner of Sparta; a daughter, Yvonne (Richard) Smallwood of Dansville; four step-sons, Steven, Thomas and Gary (Loretta) Stratton, all of Dansville, and Keith (Joyce) Stratton of Hornell; two brothers, George (Irene) Pfuntner of Honeoye and Samuel Pfuntner of Florida; brother-in-law, Douglas (Joyce) Marshall of Bath; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 24, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 21 Clara Barton St., Dansville. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
