- Kevin Whitford, 52, of State Route 414, Corning, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 19, 2009) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.
He was the son of Max and Rita (McDaniel) Whitford, who predeceased him.
Kevin enjoyed life to the fullest and had many, many friends to prove it. It didn't matter where he went, by the time he left he had made new friends. He enjoyed listening to country music, attending concerts or shows. He also enjoyed watching Cinderella softball but his absolute favorite was racing. It didn't matter what kind, local or national. Nascar was his passion from the time he was a young boy, with Jimmy Spencer being his all time favorite and current favorites being Ryan Newman and Marcos Ambrose. In fact if you watch the Nationwide Series race from Montreal on Aug. 29, you may just see his name on Kenny Wallace's No. 28 car. Kevin was a member of the VFW bowling team, the Men's Auxiliary of the VFW, Sons of the American Legion, Corning Junior Bowling Hall of Fame and the Ryan Newman Fan Club.
He is survived by his sister, Maxa Whitford of Corning. He had special friends, Vicki Hoover, Paula Cook, Lisa and Harold Bitler, Judy Johnson, CC Wilson, Rodger Keenan and Dave Stalbird.
Friends may gather from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Acly-Stover Funeral Home, Corning, with services taking place at 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Per Kevin's request there will be a luncheon at the VFW following the services. Burial will be at Chapel Knoll Cemetery in Coopers Plains.
It is also Kevin's wish for donations to be made to BVL (Bowlers to Veterans Link), Victory Junction Gang Camp or the American Heart Association.
