From a deed dated 1 May 1730: Massachusetts Land Records, 1620-1986 Middlesex Deeds 1728-1731 vol 29-30: Deed of sale of Margaret Pope to Elias Sawyer. "Margaret Pope of Lancaster, spinster, sum of money to me in hand well and truly delivered and paid by my loving brother in law Elias Sawyer...of Lancaster...blacksmith..fifteen acres of land..in Lancaster...formerly laid out to the right of John Houghton ...and near to some land of John Prescott's".
More evidence: Deed for 30 acres of land (originally given by John Houghton of Lancaster MA, the emigrant, to his 5 children (Justice John, Robert, Jonas, Mary, Beatrix Houghton) ) to Elias Sawyer. The latter Beatrix Houghton was mother of Beatrix Pope, wife of Elias Sawyer.
"512 Elias Sawyer: "to convey unto Elias Sawyer...30 acres of land... in Lancaster...the same land given by our father John Houghton deceased to his daughter Mary Houghton and lyeth together with the like quantity which was given to his daughter Beatrix Houghton.. we the said John Houghton, Robert Houghton and Jonas Houghton... 27 Apr 1720... in presence of Jonathan Houghton, Richard Wilds & Daniel Alberts...before John Houghton, justice of peace...
