- Early Germans of NJ By Theodore F. Chambers, 1895 John Philip Weise, came from Germany, probably in the ship "Robert & Alice," of Dublin from Rotterdam 1738, Sept 11, d. 1790, m. "Old Mrs. Weiss." b. 1711, d 1788, at 72 years; his will was prob. 21 Dec 1790; he bought, 8 Dec 1749, a farm of 262 acres in German Valley (Now Long Valley), from William Logan.
- As noted in the Zion Lutheran Church Records 1771-1801 - Philip Weiss died 28Oct1790 - "We buried at the Church in the Valley the oldest member of our congregation, Philip Weiss. Rev. Pastor Wack did the funeral sermon because I on account of sickness was unable."
