- DOVER, DEL - Robert D. Hamsher, DDS, 92, formerly of Dansville, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000 at the Capitol Nursing Center in Dover, Del. as a result of natural causes.
Born in Dansville, he was the son of the late Glenn and Katherine Layer Hamsher. Dr. Hamsher was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served as a captain in the Dental Officers Corps. While stationed in Air Supply at Langley Air Force Base, he established the first dental clinic at Dover Air Force Base.
Upon his discharge from active duty, he moved back to Dansville where he was active in community and professional affairs. He was a long time member of the vestry at St. Peter's Episcopal Church and was a founder and charter member of the Dansville Area Historical Society. He was a life member of Daniel Goho Post #87 of The American Legion, a past president of the Livingston County Dental Association and a past president of the Dansville Board of Trade.
Dr. Hamsher moved to Dover, Del. in 1996. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Viola Jones Hamsher in 1979 and his daughter Joanne Hamsher Gilbert in April 2000. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and John Dobbins and son-in-law Dr. Arthur Gilbert, all of Dover, and one grandson, Robert Gilbert of Washington State.
Graveside services, overseen by Chamberlin Funeral Home of Dansville, will take place Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Union Cemetery, Scottsburg, N.Y. (GCE, November 16, 2000, p4)
