- DANSVILLE - Harold E. Holmes, 79, of William St., Dansville passed away Friday morning, Sept. 20, 2002 at the Vincent House in Wayland following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Springwater on Feb. 19, 1923, a son of the late Edward and Anna Schubmehl Holmes, Sr. On April 26, 1947, he married the former Helen Schledorn, who survives. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Meuller.
Harold was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946. He was employed as a welder at Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville for 39 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the 25 Year Club and IAM Local #1665 at Foster Wheeler, and a member of Daniel Goho Post #87 of The American Legion in Dansville for over 45 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and gardening,
Surviving in addition to his dear wife of 55 years Helen, are a daughter, Joanne (Ray) Knudsen of Wayland; a brother, Edward J. (Alta) Holmes, Jr., also of Wayland; a sister, Virginia White of Florida; a grandson, Jeff (Cindi) Townsend of Fillmore; several nieces and nephews, including Ken (Elaine) Frew of Dansville; and a great friend, Jerry Sawdey, also of Dansville.
There will be no prior calling hours. Service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment with full military honors will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville.
