- Arthur Leonard Stauffer, Sr., 78, of South Main St., Wayland, died Saturday, June 21, 1997 at Noyes Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born in Junior, WV, Sept. 25, 1918, the son of the late John and Leta Baker Stauffer. Art was married to Alda Arlene Poling Stauffer, who survives, on Aug. 17, 1939.
Prior to his retirement in 1974, he had been employed as an assemblyman at Delco Products and the Fisher Body Co. for General Motors for 26 years. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Rochester and a former member of the Rush Fire Dept.
Besides his wife of 57 years, he is survived by one son, Jerry (Kathleen) Stauffer of Bradford, PA; daughter-in-law Shirley (Gary) Kissel of Scottsville; three sisters, Florence Halbert, Roslyn Kay (Victor) Young and Barbara Downey, all of Dansville; three brothers, Earl (Thelma) of Dansville, Ira (Joyce) of Hornell and Robert (Anna) of Wayland; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Stauffer was predeceased by two sons, Arthur Jr. in 1990 and Wesley in 1972.
Friends called Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at the Chamberlin Funeral Home, Inc., 73 Main St., Dansville, where a funeral service was held at 3 p.m. at the completion of calling hours with the Rev. Ronald Young officiating. Burial took place in Kiehle Cemetery, Sparta.
