The veteran soldiers and many other acquaintances in this section of George Swarts will be pained to learn that he died at his home in Tecumseh, Michigan, on the 15th inst, after an illness of two months, from brights disease. Mr. Swarts was the son of the late Jonas Swarts and Mary Deiter, and he was born in Sparta 61 years ago. He was a farmer and about twenty-five years ago he moved to Michigan where he bought a large farm and prospered. He was twice married, his first wife being Frances Kiehle, a daughter of the late Benjamin Kiehle of Sparta, and his second wife who survives was Roda Wilhelm, a daughter of the late Wm. Wilhelm of the same town. Mr. Swarts served three years in Co. I of the 136th N.Y.V., and he was for some time a member of Seth N. Hedges Post of this village, withdrawing when he moved west and uniting with a Post at Tecumseh. He was a member of the Macabees and his widow will receive $2000 from the order.
Mr. Swarts is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Solomon Swarts, Nelson Swarts, John Swarts, C.H. Swarts, supervisor of Sparta; Abraham Swarts of Springwater; Mrs. Wm. D. Pikard and Miss Minerva Swarts of Sparta, and Mrs Fred Deiter of Mansfield,Pa. This large family met four years ago, at the family reunion held at John G. Swarts', for the first time in twenty-five years, and Mr. Swarts' death is the first to occur since the above members reached manhood and womanhood.
The funeral of Mr. Swarts was held on the 18th inst and it was attended by the order of Macabees and Grand Army of the Republic.
