    Notes
    • Lake Worth, Fla. - Jean ("Jeanne") Griffiths, age 91, formerly of Lake Worth/Greenacres, Fla and Hornell/Loon Lake, passed peacefully Thursday (Sept. 2, 2010) in the Hospice of Palm Beach County Unit/Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center surrounded by tons of love and family. After a summer of many short adventures, celebrating "one of the best days of my life" on Sunday having a joyous visit via webcam with her beloved sister Phip and husband Bill, many calls and visits from family, Jean took a turn on Monday morning and entered Hospice. Our fervent prayer that she would pass peacefully was answered as she passed with a gentle grace and peace. She is now dancing again and sailing her beloved Snipe sailboat, Miss Behave, in Heaven with Jesus and many wonderful family members who sailed before her.
She was the 2nd child of Harold Henry Ranger Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Bowen and was born in Hornell. She attended schools in Hornell and Lake Worth/West Palm Beach, Fla, graduating from both Hornell High and Palm Beach High, Fla. in 1937. She graduated from Elmira College, Class of 1941, with a degree in English. She worked for her family's business (Elmhurst Dairy) in Hornell and GLF in Ithaca as a secretary, and as a substitute teacher. She married David Edward Griffiths on Oct. 17, 1943 and her adventures began - traveling with him throughout WWII, even driving from NY to TX with a 6-week-old. Jean helped her husband run a farm in Big Flats while he was an executive pilot for Corning Glass for many years and was graced with 4 children, who were her life's joy. She then had a loving 16 year relationship and many more wonderful memories with Gerard H Allard until his passing, for which her children are eternally grateful. She then reconnected with her best friend from Kindergarten, Reis Smith of Loon Lake/Tavares, FL, and spent many wonderful days reading his monthly letters to anyone who would listen.
She was predeceased by her parents, her favorite aunt, Bernice Ranger Burdett (age 105), her brothers, Harold Ranger Jr. and Robert "Bob" Ranger; one grandson, Wayne "JR" Weber Jr and one great granddaughter, Angel Jones.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis (Bill) O'Connor; one son David Ranger (Ela) Griffiths of Wayland, MA, plus three daughters - Sarajane (Sue) Tobias of Grants Pass, OR; Phyllis Lewis of Greenacres, FL; and Helen Murray (Doug) of Belle Glade, FL. She is survived by 12 beloved grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a host of very dear nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
A private service will be held for family at the Hospice of the Palm Beaches chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Braille Club of Palm Beach (where Jean was a volunteer 40+ years), 4801 S Dixie Hwy, West Palm Beach, FL 33405 ; or Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 (www.hpbc.com for online donations or donation forms).
