- DANSVILLE - Alfred 'Al' B. Sliker, 68, of Gibson St., Dansville passed away late Wednesday evening, June 27, 2001 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville after a long illness.
He was born in Groveland on Nov. 14, 1932, a son of the late Claude Thomas and Florence Evelyn Hendershott Sliker. On Aug. 19, 1961, he was married to the former Joyce Whiteman, who survives. He was predeceased by his son Tim in 1982 and his brother Dave in 1980.
Al was a 1950 graduate from Dansville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and spent three years in Korea. He was employed at ATO FINA in Piffard for 35 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the Fawcett Post #1582 of The American Legion in Canaseraga, a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #1130 of Dansville, the Dansville Presbyterian Church, and the Dansville Fish & Game Club. He enjoyed reading westerns, gardening and watching his grandsons Kyle and Charlie play sports.
Surviving in addition to his devoted wife Joyce are his daughter and son-in-law Tina and Paul Button of Dansville; his grandsons Kyle and Charlie Button; four sisters-in-law: Alice Moore and Catherine (William) Mattice, both of Wayland, and Lynn Whiteman of San Jose, Calif. and Marian Sliker Kennell of Dansville; brother-in-law Harry Boylan of Dansville; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends called Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville, where services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Hotchkiss officiating. A Moose memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday in the funeral. Interment with full military honors will be in Wayland Village Cemetery.
