Notes |
- Charles Sumner Burdett, known as Sum, was the younger son of Charles F. and Annie Carpenter Burditt. Born and brought up in North Reading, he attended local public schools and Reading Senior High School, graduating in the class of 1930. He then attended and graduated from Burdett College of Business Administration in Boston. His talent for music, however, soon placed him in a prominent place before the public. During his high school days he was the leader of an orchestra which was frequently in demand throughout the district. He served in the Navy during World War II. Later he held a position with a well-known academy of music as instructor of piano, and has appeared frequently on radio programs. He made his living giving piano lessons. Sumner lived with his father on his father's farm on Main Street in North Reading. He never married. He often played with famous bands when they came to play in Boston. He had a brother, Edward Burdett and a sister, Marion Burdett Clough.
