    Notes
    • Dansville, N.Y. - Charles O. Kinney, 89, formerly of Dansville passed away Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 20, 2010) at the Vincent House in Wayland after a brief illness.
He was born in Dansville, on Oct. 24, 1920, a son of the late Earl and Alta (Moose) Kinney. On Oct. 12, 1943, he was married to Elsie (McCollister) Kinney who predeceased him on Aug. 1, 1998. He was also predeceased by siblings, Robert, Kenneth, Richard, Reid, Dorlan, Neil and Wayne Kinney, Treva Hepfner and Vesta Chapman.
Charlie worked at Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in Dansville for 41 years, retiring in 1982; he was also part-time projectionist for the Legion Theater in Wayland. A graduate of Dansville High School, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Growing up in Stony Brook State Park in Dansville, where his father was superintendent, Charlie and his 11 brothers and sisters enjoyed all sorts of outdoor activities including, fishing, hunting and swimming. Sports were always important to him; in high school he played football, basketball and baseball. He always claimed his nickname ?Speed? came from swiftness of foot, but others have reported that it had more to do with his relative lack of speed getting to classes on time.
Charlie was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter, gardener, bowler, horseshoe pitcher, card player and an excellent dancer. He enjoyed music and could often be found at local concerts and dances. He liked to watch all sorts of sports on TV, particularly baseball and football. He was a member of the Daniel Goho Post No. 87 of the American Legion, the Dansville Fish and Game Club, Frank J. Casbolt No. 6780 of the VFW, IAM Local No. 1442, Powers Inn Club, the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 1130, the Wayland Rod & Gun Club, and the Keshequa (Sonyea) Golf Club where he counted his ?Hole in One? on No. 2 as one of his greatest achievements.
He is survived by four daughters, Jeanne King of Wayland, Janice (Dieter) Rellier of Kansas City, Marlene Moomaw of Rochester, Ann (Lee Rockers) Kinney, also of Kansas City; five sons, C. Michael (Marilyn) Kinney of Warsaw, Alan Kinney of Wayland, Kevin (Kathy) Kinney of Eugene, Ore., Ronald (Becky) Kinney of DeBary, Fla., and Dennis (Lisa) Kinney of Rochester; a brother, David Kinney of Tannersville; and a sister, Fern Carmody of Dansville; 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a friend to all, and was a good father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He was loved much and will be greatly missed by all.
