- Nelson O. Pike age 84, of the Kysorville-Byersville Rd., in West Sparta passed away early Sunday morning August 29, 1999 at home following a long illness.
He was born in Ossian, on January 18, 1915, a son of Oscar A. and Florine Hahn Pike. On December 20, 1942, he was married to Ora Mae Chasey who survives. He was predeceased by two brothers Louis and Robert Pike a sister Norma Rank and a daughter in-law Judy Harrison Pike.
Nelson was a WW II US Army Veteran. He retired from the shipping and receiving dept. at the Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville in 1977 after 37 1/2 years of service. Ora Mae and Nelson have operated Pike's Greenhouse at their home for the past 23 years. He enjoyed woodworking and had constructed three log cabins in West Sparta.
He was a member of the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of the American Legion, the West Sparta United Methodist Church, the Twenty Five Year Club at Foster Wheeler and the Local # 1665 of the IAM.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years Ora Mae are his four sons, David (Marilyn) Pike of W. Sparta, Gary Pike of Lavonia, GA, Randy (Gloria) Pike also of W. Sparta and Lynn (Jacquelyn) Pike of Henrietta. Two sisters Betty (Edwin) Shaver of W. Sparta and Shirley (Grant) Case of Garwoods. Two sister in laws Mildred Pike of W. Sparta and Betty Pike of Nunda. Twelve grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Hindle Funeral Home 271 Main St., Dansville. Services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 PM in the West Sparta United Methodist Church with the Rev. Peter Delrio and the Rev. David Hotchkiss officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery W. Sparta. An American Legion Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the West Sparta United Methodist Church, 4795 Goho Rd., the Dansville Ambulance Fund, PO Box 235, or the Daniel Goho Post of the American Legion, Veterans Memorial Project 2000, PO Box 306, all of Dansville, NY 14437. Nelson was a good neighbor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
