- Dansville, N.Y. - Sid Smith, 89, passed away Friday morning (Feb. 25, 2011) at Lakeside Hospital in Brockport.
He was born in Manhattan on June 20, 1921, a son of the late John and May Smith. On June 29, 1951, he was married to Helen (Gilbert) Smith, who predeceased him on Dec. 11, 1992. On Sept. 24, 1994, he was married to Dorothy (Peer) Goodwin, who predeceased him on March 9, 2008. He was also predeceased by a son, Brian and a sister, Alice Schaffer.
Sid was a U.S. Army WWII longshore man serving from 1942-1945 in the Southern Philippines. He was a laborer at the former Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville. He was an avid bowler at Brae Burn Recreation for many years. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn, the 'Coffee Club' at McDonald's and the Sunrise restaurants in Dansville.
He is survived by a son, Keith (Mamie) Smith of Hamlin; a daughter, Dianne Smith of Dansville; six step-sons, Scott (Marge) Goodwin, Kirk (Cheryl) Goodwin, James (Bonnie) Goodwin and Joel (Amy) Goodwin, all of Dansville, Craig Goodwin of Lockport, and Jack (Tina) Goodwin of Cohocton; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
