William Waterbury, son of John Waterburye. St. Peter?s Church records indicate: Wm. the sonne of John Waterbery was baptized XI jth day of March 1593-4. When John Winthrop embarked from Cowes, England on 29 March 1630 to take the cf the Massachusetts Bay Colony to America, William and his wife Alice of Lincolnshire, England, were included among the passengers of the Eagle, afterwards named the Arbella, one of four ships in Winthrop?s fleet. They settled for a time in Watertown, Massachusetts. Their names appear as the 35th and 36th members of the church there. William and Alice supposedly returned to England a few years after arriving in Massachusetts, but no trace of their deaths has been found in England or America.

(3) John Waterbury, born in Sudbury, Suffolk Co., England, baptized 30 December 1621, died 1658, Stamford,
Connecticut; married Rose Lockwood of Watertown, Massachusetts. It has been suggested that when William and Alice left to return to England, possibly to retrieve other children and with intentions to return to America, they left John in the custody of the Lockwood family which was established at Watertown in 1630, thus accounting for the romance which sprung up between he and Rose. Since no trace of his siblings have ever been found on this side of the Atlantic, it has been supposed that John and Rose are the progenitors of all who bear the name Waterbury both in the United States, and of the large New Brunswick, Canada, Waterbury family.
On 15 October 1646, John and Rose sold their home to Robert Pierce of Watertown and left for Wethersfield, Connecticut, but they soon moved on to Stamford where they remained until John?s death at the early age of 37. He was a landowner ord as early as 1650. John served in the Connecticut Colonial Legislature for several years.
After John?s death, Rose married 11 May 1659 Joseph Gurnsey, by whom she had one son, Joseph, on 30 June 1662.
