- Lois J. Hendee, 82, of Hornell (town of Fremont) died early Tuesday morning (Jan. 21, 2014) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Pennsylvania on Nov. 29, 1931, she was the daughter of Albert and Doris Young.
Lois grew up in the Canaseraga–Arkport area and was a graduate of Arkport Central School (class of 1949). She later earned her associate degree from Alfred State College (class of 1951).
In her younger years, Lois had been employed as a Lab Technician at Dansville Hospital, Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester and at the former Karl Clinic in Hornell.
She was married on Dec. 31, 1955, to Jack Hendee, who survives. Along with her husband, Lois was active in the day-to-day operation of Hendee Homestead Dairy Farm in Fremont. She also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, cooking and baking for her family and neighbors.
Lois was preceded in death by her brothers, Lyle Young and Richard Young; her daughter-in-law, Theresa Hendee; and her sister-in-law, Janet Young.
In addition to her husband, Jack, survivors include four sons, Sam (Kate) Hendee of Hornell, Dave (Sue) Hendee of Almond, Jack (Linda) Hendee of Hornell, and Joe Hendee of Prattsburgh; her sister, Shirley (Don "Red") Stewart of Dansville; her sister-in-law, Karen Young; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
