Notes |
- Bernice entered Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan in September, 1929, to study to be a nurse and was to have graduated within a few weeks when it was discovered she had tuberculosis in what was supposed to be light form. After 5 years of doctoring, she was pronounced cured and seemed to be well until about 1939, when she again began to show signs of the return of the dreaded disease. While nursing her little niece with whooping cough, Bernice began to cough and for 8 or 10 weeks had what seemed to be a severe attack of whooping cough. She gradually grew worse until the doctor ordered her sent to the Oakland County Tuberculosis Hospital near Pontiac, Michigan, where she passed away on October 15, 1940.
