(Special to the Record.)
Liberty, N. Y, Sept 13.—Charles Benton, an esteemed young man of Livingston Manor, was drowned in the Beaverkill while bathing today. He went into the water, and after remaining some time he came out, presumably for a rest. After a few minutes he went in again and began swimming down the river. He had gone but a short distance when he threw up his arms and called for help, and immediately sank, and nothing more could be seen of him. Your correspondent was on the spot at 3 p. m. today and found a number of people dredging the river, but the body could not be found. The river is very high, and it is supposed the body is floating down. Young Benton was 25 years of age and leaves a wife and one child.
