- The Hon. A.B. Haynes died suddenly and unexpectedly at his place eight miles from Memphis at an early hour this morning. He had an attack of malarial fever about 10 days ago, but was able to sit up until yesterday morning. At 6 o'clock last evening, he was suddenly taken worse and at 6 this morning he was deceased. A native of Giles County, he came to Shelby county when a young man to practice law but married Miss Buntyn, daughter of Geraldia (sic) Buntyn, soon afterward and turned his attention to farming at which he was highly successful. A member of the Baptist Church, he was an upright and respected citizen, greatly esteemed by neighbors and the community at large. He was elected to the lower house of the legislature on the Democratic ticket in 1872 and was elected to the Senate in 1874, making both times an efficient and influential member. Since then, he has not taken part in politics but has been active in promoting the interests of the Granges. For some time, he has been master of the State Grange. He died at the age of about 46. The funeral will be tomorrow at Elmwood Cemetery.
