  Notes	Robert came to America with his three sons, Edward, Thomas and Henry and bought land in Milton, Mass., 7/13/1654 [Babcock Genealogy, p. 28]. He was noted as a "gentleman of Dorchester" on 7/13/1654 when he purchased about 500 acres of property ( the estate of one John Glover, a leading citizen of the town) for the sum of " 300 and four score pounds sterling." This is the first mention of Robert's name in New England. The 500 acres was mostly in that part of Dorchester which was incorporated into the town of Milton in 1662; he was the largest landholder in Milton at that time. Robert was one of the three petitioners for the incorporation of Milton, MA and was a prominent citizen. In 1664, he gave the town 8 acres of land for church purposes near Vose's Lane and Center St. He was received to full communion with the Milton Church on 7/17/1681 and was the first person to be admitted so after the ordination of the Rev. Peter Thacher on 6/1/1681. Mr. Thacher was the first pastor of that church. He lived in what is now known as the old Glover House, near the junction of Canton Avenue and Brook Road. In 1655, he with his two sons assisted in "running the Lyne;" in 1656, he had his "40 akers" laid out towards the Blue Hills and in 1657 he was a "supervisor of the hieways;" in 1659, one of the four chosen to lay out the common lands, and in 1662, one of the three petitioners for the incorporation of the town of Milton. On 5/30/1666, he was admitted to the freedom of the Colony. In 1669 and in 1677, he was one of the selectmen of the town, and in other years served on various committees.
