- Carmel P. Lander, 89, devoted wife, loving mother of two, teacher of many and loved by all, passed away late Wednesday evening (March 14, 2001) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. She was born in Arkport on March 12, 1912, a daughter of the late George and Mary Parks Perry. On Aug. 19, 1936, she was married to Clair Lander, who predeceased her on Aug. 21, 2000. She was also predeceased by a brother, Raymond Perry. Carmel was a graduate of the Geneseo State Teachers College. She had taught fifth grade at Dansville Central School for 15 years, retiring in 1971. She was a 60-plus year member and elder at the Dansville Presbyterian Church. She also belonged to the Opportunity Circle at the King's Daughters and Sons Home of Dansville. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and gardening. Carmel is survived by her daughter, Joy (Carl) Clauss of Wallingford, Pa.; her son, Bruce (Margaret) Lander of Long Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren, Mark (Sarah) Clauss of Baltimore, Beth Clauss of Philadelphia, and Andrew Lander of Long Beach; two sisters, Theda Lyon of Naples and Mary Jean (Herb) Whitney of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday from 9:30-10 a.m. at the Dansville Presbyterian Church, 3 School St., Dansville, where services will be held at the completion of calling hours at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the Dansville Presbyterian Church, 3 School St., or the Dansville Public Library, 200 Main St., both of Dansville, N.Y., 14437. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville.
