- I enjoyed your website at Our Northern Roots. I'm suppose to descend
from Peter Putman the son of Victor Putman by way of is son John who
seems to have married a Sarah Martin, or Mulford. Victor Putman's
father was you know was David Janse Pootman of Potterstown, New
Jersey, and before that Schenectady, New York.
When I had the Putman Family Bulletin, I wrote an article on David
Cornelius Putman, who was really David Janse Pootman.
From information I received from a Mr. Sisser of New Jersey, and from
an old deed of the Auten family, David Putman's wife was a Helena. I
have guessed that she was Helena Van Gelder, but I may be wrong. I am
wondering where you got the information that David married a daughter
of Martin Beekman and Neeltje Slingerland?
I had thought that David Potman, Putman, married second Elizabeth, or
Lidia, Henderickson Beekman of Raritan, New Jersey, the daughter of
Henry Beekman and Annetje Quackenbush, who was a brother of Martin
Beekman.
May I ask how you determined that David Potman's wife was Elizabeth
Martinson Beekman? Tradition says, according to Warren T. Putman,
that David married an Elzabeth Beekman of Albany, New York, but
nothing else has been passed down.
Hope to hear from you, and have a wonderfull day.
The information that David Putman lived and died in Pluckimen, New
Jersey, I started back in the 1990's from information that De Witt
Putman had at one time. I tried to read a misspelled word and came up
with Pluckimen, and today everyone uses that as the place of death of
David Potman. From the 1741 Hunterdon County Census, David seems to
have lived in the Potterstown, New Jersey, area and I think that
Potterstown may have been named after him and was his home town.
Mark.
