    • A well-known Dansville man, Gerald F. Freeman Sr., of 36 Valley View Court died Friday (Feb. 24, 1989) in the Bath VA Medical Center following a long illness. He was 68.
      He was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Groveland, a son of Raymond and Anna Bricks Freeman. On Dec. 12, 1942, he married Edna Smith who survives. Mr. Freeman had been employed at the Dansville Post Office for more than 30 years, retiring in 1974 as assistant postmaster.

      A veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was active in veterans' affairs and was a life member of Daniel Goho American Legion Post and as financial officer and adjutant of the Livingston County Seventh District American Legion units. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Hornell Elks Club, Dansville Area Coin and Stamp Club, St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Protectives Co. of the Dansville Fire Department.

      In addition to Mrs. Freeman, he is survived by four sons, Gerald Jr. of Dansville, Gary of Penfield, Raymond of Walworth and Edward of Rochester; two step-sisters, Mary George of Rochester and Leona Beaupre of Connecticut; two step-brothers, Anthony Conrad of Perkinsville and Lawrence Conrad of Syracuse; 11 grandchildren.

      A funeral service was conducted Monday morning in St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Shoop officiating. Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery with arrangements by the Hindle Funeral Home of Dansville.
