    Notes
    • An alternate spelling is OWSLEY. But name is probably Owley. Hannah
was James's cousin. An alt. b. date is 1599. Another rec. states was
86 at d., thus, was born in 1629, not 1599, which would of made her
      116. The b. date of abt. 1629, would make her married 6 years on her
birth. The d. date appears good and the 86 years old at d. seems OK,
thus we will use 1629 as her b. The m. date of 1623 appears to be in
error: 17 Sep 1623 and has been removed.
      Note copied from hubsands record:
Exhibit A refernce has the following: Nicholas, Salem, had gr. of ld.
1639, says Felt, was one of the founders of ch. at Beverly 1667, with
      Eliz. prob.
his w. who was says a wid tradit. the first girl of Eng. parents, b.
in the Col. of Mass. and d. 14 Jan. 1715, aged 86. He d. Nov. 1673,
leav. s. John, and Thomas. Hutch. II 216 and 3 Mass. Hist. Coll.
VII.256. Dwlr, in note on Ann. I. 175, informs us, "a Patch fam. was
in Salem as early as 1629;" but it is thot. by many that is ten yrs.
      too soon.
Exhibit B gives a conflicting story on the who was the first girl.
      More on this later.
Eliz. is no doubt Elizabeth OWLEY. The dates and sons check; however,
the sone we have as James is not listed. James died in 1658. Thus he
died before his father and in 1673, Jame had already died. Thus, the
      record is probably correct.
Emigrated with husband and family to Salem, Massachusetts Colony in
1636. One of the members of the First Church of Salem to form the
First Church in Beverly. In the Calendar of Wills and Administrations
in the Court of the Archdeacon of Taunton, Parts I and II, 1537-1799,
published by the British Royal Society, The surname Owley is not found
among the surnames of testators, but several wills named Owsley or
Owslys are listed, among them the will of John Owslye of South
      Petherton, in 1610.
Emigrated with husband and family to Salem, Massachusetts Colony in
among the surnames of testators, but several wills named Owsley.
A good guess is that Elizabeth Owley was born in England and came to
America as stated above. The first child story is apparently
Elizabeth BRACKENBURG who had married Edmund PATCH, who was much
older. After he died, this Elizabeth then married Elizabeth
      OWLEY-PATCH's son John.
