  Notes	At the age of 12, his father's family joined the tide of emmigrants west, and came to Bristol, Ontario County. At the age of 22, John elisted in the Army and served in the War of 1812 and served until he was brought home sick. When he was 27 he journeyed south to New Orleans and lived 3 years while working on the Mississippi River. Upon returning to Bristol he married the widow of Benjamin D. Wheeler. John taught school for 17 winters with uniform success. He was an outstanding reader and was fond of poetry, his memory was wonderful, could recite a page of Homer with no problem. Until a year of his death. John Pool was of cool temper, not easily unbalanced, yet he had strong affection and a warm heart. In his young age he loved to joke and could take as well as give. His last few years were held in the village of Honeoye, with eye sight failing, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Phillips(Eliza).
