    Charles W. Hamsher, Sr., 76, of Reeds Corners Rd., Sparta, passed away Thursday morning, July 20, 1995, in the home he was born in with his children and grandchildren at his bedside. He was born in Sparta on Jan. 11, 1919, the son of Charles A. and Flora Wagner Hamsher. On July 10, 1938, he married Dorothy Gates, who passed away in August of 1988. He was also predeceased by a son, James M. Hamsher. Charles went to work on the Far View family farm as a young man and worked the farm until he retired in 1989. He and his wife Dorothy were founding members of the Sparta Center Fire Department. He was also a member of the Dansville Grange. He is survived by his son, Charles W. Jr. of Sparta; two daughters, Carol (Robert) Carberry and Janice (Malcolm) Jarvis, both of Dansville; two sisters, Evelyn Learn of West Sparta and Lydia Weiler of Dansville; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grand-children; several nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog Pepper. Friends called Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville, where services were held Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. G. Calvin Sheasley and the Rev. Seymour Gilbert officiating. Interment was in Kiehle Cemetery, Sparta. Family and friends were also invited to attend a luncheon at the Sparta Center Fire Hall immediately following the committal service. Contributions in his name may be made to the Dansville Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 235, the Sparta Center Fire Dept., Reeds Corners Rd., both of Dansville; the American Heart Association, Finger Lakes Chapter, 191 Parrish St., Canandaigua, NY, 14424; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

    Charles W. "Charlie" Hamsher Jr. age 80, passed away Wednesday morning November 13, 2019, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris. He was born in Wayland on April 13, 1939, a son of the late Charles W. and Dorothy Mae (Gates) Hamsher Sr. He was also predeceased by his brother James Hamsher, and a grandson Joshua Griffith. Charles was a farmer like his father, on the family farm in Sparta NY. In the 1990's Charles sold the farm and went to work for the Livingston County Highway Dept. based in Groveland NY as a Truck Driver. He was a Charter Member of the Sparta Center Volunteer Fire Department. He loved spending his time, farming, and hunting and taking rides through the country in his pickup truck. He was a founding member of the Hamsher Rangers in the late 1960's. He is survived by his daughters, Colleen (Jeff) Drake, Darlene (Sam) Bozzette, Tammy (Darrell) Lemen, Pam (Mike) Van Scooter, his sisters, Carol Carberry, and Janice (Malcolm) Jarvis, eight grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, Interment Kiehle Cemetery, Sparta, New York.

    A funeral service was held in the Chamberlin Funeral Home Saturday afternoon for James M. Hamsher, six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hamsher of RD 1 who died unexpectedly Wednesday (Sept. 30, 1959) in Dansville Memorial Hospital. Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Carol and Janice; a brother, Charles Jr. and his parternal grandmother, Mrs. Flora Hamsher. The Rev. Bertram Croop officiated and burial was in Kiehle Cemetery, Sparta.
