- HORNELL - Gladys E. Boag, 87, of 388 Fairview Ave., died early Saturday morning (June 26, 2004) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a short illness.
Born in the Town of Fremont on April 12, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Bessie Davis Burdett. On Sept. 25, 1937, she was married at the Big Creek Church to Milo D. Boag, who predeceased her on April 24, 1993.
A life long resident of Hornell, Gladys was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1934, and a graduate of the former Hornell Business School.
She was employed by the former Coyles Hardware Store in Hornell for 29 years, and also for Sears and the Changose Agency, also in Hornell, prior to becoming employed as a real estate agent for the Lang Agency, retiring at the age of 75.
Gladys was a member of the Hornell United Methodist Church and the Women of the Methodist Church. An avid reader, she also enjoyed gardening and big band music.
Her family includes her daughter, Milene (James) Dexter of Hornell; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Boag of Rochester; her four grandchildren, Martin Dexter of Hornell, Heather Dexter of Boston, Mass., Jennilyn Boag and Colleen Boag, both of Rochester; her two sisters, Lois (John) Giglio of West Seneca and Joyce Scholla of Hornell; her sister-in-law, Shirley Burdett of Hornell; her special friend, Ruth Muller of Hornell; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Gladys was predeceased by her son, David Boag; her granddaughter, Frances Adele Dexter; and her brother, Dorr Burdett.
Calling hours were from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, and from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, June 28, at the United Methodist Church, Webbs Crossing Road, where a funeral service will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. Monday, June 28, with the Rev. Beth Kottemann officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Bath National Cemetery.
