    Notes 
    • His grandfather, Joel Dicken, was one of the first settlers to arrive
      in Vermillion Township, in 1821, from Prairie Creek, KY. His father
      was Simeon, 7 Dec 1861, Company "I", 14th Regiment of Indiana
      Volunteers to serve three years or during the war. Killed by a musket
      wound to the head at the Battle of Antietam. Jerome was a carpenter
      and built a bridge over the Little Ver- million River at Poplar Street
      in 1858.
